Docs Ireland is delighted to centre the art of audio-making as a focal point of our industry programme for 2026. Audio can provide a dynamic medium for projecting reality and cogent non-fiction narratives, with endless possibilities for creative expression and telling compelling stories via aural interpretation.

Following his Berlinale-winning debut feature Christy, Brendan Canty returns with Gealtra. Centred on The Kabin Studio, a youth-led creative space on Cork’s northside, the film follows teenagers exploring identity, community and the Irish language through songwriting and poetry.

What do we do with the violent history we’ve inherited? Do we accept a repressive culture as is, or do we reshape it in our own image? In a world where oppression, occupation and war have become ambient, Útóipe Cheilteach plays at a different frequency, where hope is possible and a brighter future may be realised.
