Women's Work Presents: Ciara O'Neill @ The Linen Hall Library
The Linen Hall Library and Women's Work are delighted to launch the brand new EP ‘Woman’ by Belfast based folk Singer Songwriter Ciara O’Neill. Following on from the success of her last EP where single ‘La Lune’ topped the BBC Radio Ulster and RTE Radio1 airplay charts and her subsequent RTE Radio1 Folk Award nomination this event is not to be missed.
If Ciara’s music has one central theme it is her voice, one that silences a room with the first note as well as her heartfelt crafted lyricism never shying away from emotions that are both uncomfortable and universal. The ‘Woman’ EP is an exploration of the beauty and complexities of being a Woman in modern society. Looking at herself, her own female relatives and those Women in history who have lived lives in the shadows, Ciara writes about having a desire for more, not feeling the need to conform to expectations placed on Women and having the courage to be visible.
Expect a night of beautiful music and words of empowerment and truth in the stunning backdrop of the historic Linen hall library.

Volume Control All-Ages Show Featuring Brand New Friend
The current 2024 Volume Control team have thrown some massive all-ages shows this year and they have delivered every time with an outstanding line-up of local acts. They’re putting together their very last gig in the Oh Yeah Centre on 15th June which is one you won’t want to miss out on!
Headliners Brand New Friend have been making music since 2017, with Johnson siblings (Lauren, Taylor and Logan) starting off with jamming sessions in their family home on Northern Ireland’s rugged north coast. Within a few years they went from playing their local pub in the sleepy village of Castlerock to playing festival stages all over the UK and Ireland. After meeting drummer Luke Harris and lead guitarist Aaron Milligan in a Portrush pub (then performing as their own two-piece band), then recruiting younger brother Logan as a fully-fledged member on bass, it seemed inevitable the five would unite, completing the Brand New Friend line-up almost by accident. Following the release of their debut album Seatbelts for Aeroplanes in 2018, they hit the road in support of Snow Patrol, Lewis Capaldi, Ash, Starcrawler, At The Drive In, RAT BOY and Feeder.
If their recent second album, Grandstand, is a record about the butterfly effect put in place before you were born, then it is also about the need to create your own. It’s about the good and bad coexisting and finding a way to continue when life has you know it has completely changed. Inspired by Pavement, The Thrills, Interpol and Mike Skinner, the indie pop record has achieved support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Radio X and RTE 2fm. The group's growth is evident, with the LP brimming with massive sounding guitars and pop hooks.
Keep your eyes peeled - more acts TBC!

Rescheduled: The Liquid Engineers: The Gary Numan Experience
On behalf of the Liquid Engineers - The Complete Gary Numan Experience we would like to confirm a reschedule of our proposed gig at the Oh Yeah Music Centre Belfast.
The new date is May 16th 2025, all tickets already sold for our 2024 appearance (May 10 2024) will remain valid. Due to Gary Numan announcing his UK tour, starting in May, we feel it would be in everyone's interest to move and reschedule the date. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but we promise for 2025 we will more than make up for this with a powerhouse of a show covering over 45+ years of Gary Numan’s music career.
—
Gary Numan has been cited as a major influence on acts such as Nine Inch Nails to Prince, his music has been covered by acts from Beck, Blur, Basement Jaxx and Africa Bambatta.
Marilyn Manson, Little Boots and many more.
Standing within the smoke and haze effects and with the light show transporting you to the front row seat of a Gary Numan concert, Pat Martin without doubt, the hardest working UK Gary Numan tribute, delivers a vocal and visual spectacle from the moment he hits the stage.
The Liquid Engineers: The Gary Numan Experience are the UKs premier tribute to his 40+year music career. They are a 5 piece live band, drums, guitar synths guitar lead guitar creating that huge Numan wall of sound.
The band gives Numan fans old and new a show that will remain in your memory long after you leave the venue.

“Tom Lawrinson is in a class of his own and as one of the funniest stand-ups in the circuit.”
Ed Fest Magazine (5 Stars)
“An insightful and funny gentleman, cleverly turning stock gags on their head to reflect a “woke” view of a world that has slept in for too long.”
The Skinny
“He has an eye for the mundanely absurd which is truly unique, with an execution that is joyfully daft.”

CQAF: Peter Case, Sid Griffin and Dan Stuart
A potential show of the festival. Three absolute icons of Americana will play individual sets then come together for an unforgettable finale.
Peter Case is a three-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter from the USA who has a most impressive resume. He was the founder of the Nerves, the very first American indie band to put together a nationwide tour and one of the very first to release their own indie EP. He then was the founder and leader of the legendary Plimsouls, an incredibly influential L.A. rock and roll band which drew praise from everyone from Elvis Costello to Tom Petty to critics nationwide.
For the past thirty-some years Peter Case has been a solo troubadour in the great tradition of Dylan, Guthrie, and Pete Seeger. Early on he was produced by T-Bone Burnett and he’s played with and been championed by Roger McGuinn, Van Dyke Parks, Mike Campbell of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers and many more. His latest album is The Midnight Broadcast and it just might be his very best album.
Sid Griffin is best known for his leadership of the Long Ryders, the founding fathers of alt-country and Americana. He is also the proud artist behind four well-received solo albums, was the leader of the wonderful ‘alt-bluegrass’ UK band, The Coal Porters, he was the Resident Musicologist on BBC 6 Music’s Radcliffe & Maconie radio show for over a decade and Sid has written four books. Sid’s most recent book, Million Dollar Bash: Bob Dylan, The Band, and the Basement Tapes, has been reissued twice and Sid did the liner notes for that collection of legendary Dylan tracks.
Dan Stuart is a musician and author who was the leader of Green on Red, a band associated with both LA’s Paisley Underground of the 1980’s and the beginning of the so-called Americana movement. His “false memoir” The Deliverance of Marlowe Billings was published in 2014 to critical acclaim which was followed up with The Unfortunate Demise of Marlowe Billings in 2018.
All three of his books all have albums by the same name with the last getting Americana album of the Month in UNCUT Magazine, Dan has released over 15 albums between Green on Red and his solo years.
Tonight’s performance will feature songs from across his solo and Green on Red catalogue and a very brief reading from his third and latest novel Marlowe’s Revenge along with stories of his time with Green on Red.

Youth Open Mic April
In response to the growing need of young artists for a safe place to perform and enhance their skills, Oh Yeah launched their first all-ages Open Mic in August 2022. It was a massive success with a bill filled to the brim of talented performers, all under the age of 18.
In keeping with traditional Open Mic formats, the event caters to singer/songwriters and is not geared for band setups with two performers per slot being the limit.
The setup onstage that will be ready for all performers will be two vocal mics, two DI boxes for guitars and keys.
All performers will be asked to sing for approximately 15 minutes (which is about 3 songs) and we would love to hear at least one original track, if they have one!
For details of our next Open Mic or to register your name, email caoimhe@ohyeahbelfast.com

Belfast Punk Story With Thomas Paul Burgess & Band
Join us for a unique discussion and performance celebrating the history of an iconic band and Belfast’s punk scene.
Ruefrex were one of Northern Ireland’s most popular and uncompromising punk rock bands. Emerging from the Belfast street-gang culture of the late-1970s, the group, inspired by The Clash, enjoyed a turbulent, decade-long career. They played for millions on CNN and Channel 4, toured with The Pogues and recorded the controversial ‘The Wild Colonial Boy’, which attacked American donations to Northern Irish terrorist organisations.
Throughout it all, founder member, songwriter and spokesperson Thomas Paul Burgess ensured the band remained faithful to their Protestant, working-class origins. His recently published candid memoir takes us on a journey from the streets of Belfast to encounters with U2, Shane MacGowan, The Cure, The Fall and Seamus Heaney.
Paul will be in conversation with Barry McIlheney and the interview will be followed by a gig featuring The Sacred Heart of Bontempi (Burgess’s current band), performing for the evening as The Wild Colonial Boys. Special guests may make an appearance!
Alpha Twin
Alpha Twin are an alternative rock trio from Belfast with influences including the likes of Rage Against the Machine and Queens of the Stone Age. They’ve been championed by Hot Press and BBC Introducing with presenter Stuart Bailie saying the band are “one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen.” The band have also supported punk legends Stiff Little Fingers, played festivals like United Tribes and Sunflower Festival, and sold out shows across Ireland including in Dublin and the infamous Mandela Hall in Belfast.
Support from Quiet Neighbours and Gush.

Forget your snakes and shamrocks, we're using this bank holiday as an excuse for some quality Sunday night electronics. Danse Intermission & The Night Institute team up once more for a St. Paddy’s Double header on Sunday 17th March after a sold out night last year.
