david mcwilliams: the story behind the room
David McWilliams was a talented singer-songwriter hailing from Belfast. He achieved fame in 1967 with the release of his hit song 'The Days of Pearly Spencer.' The song is a poignant ode to a homeless man McWilliams encountered in Ballymena, and features a sweeping orchestral arrangement by Mike Leander, as well as a unique chorus sung through a megaphone effect. This was created by recording the vocals in a phone booth near the studio.
The room dedicated to David McWilliams's work was supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and was officially opened by his daughter and granddaughter to commemorate the legacy of the iconic singer-songwriter.
