Following his Berlinale-winning debut feature Christy, Brendan Canty returns with Gealtra. Centred on The Kabin Studio, a youth-led creative space on Cork’s northside, the film follows teenagers exploring identity, community and the Irish language through songwriting and poetry. Through workshops, recording sessions and conversations, Gealtra reveals their personal histories and creative potential, showing how music becomes a natural and empowering way to learn Irish.

Its impact reached far beyond Cork in 2024 when The Spark, a collaboration between the Kabin Crew and Lisdoonvarna Crew, went viral and passed a billion streams, highlighting the studio’s unique model of youth-led creativity. Gealtra is a celebration of youth agency, collective expression and the transformative power of a space that lifts its young people.
