Twenty years after Lou Reed and John Cale broke up The Velvet Underground, they briefly reunited to record Songs for Drella. Captured on camera in this concert film, the album explores the life, dreams, aspirations and fears of the band’s mentor and manager Andy Warhol
This unseen piece of music history was long thought lost – but was recently found in Ed Lachman’s attic, and this 4k restoration comes from the original 16mm negative. Lachman is a much respected & renowned cameraperson, shooting films for Wim Wenders and Werner Herzog, amongst many others.
“The songs themselves, showcased beautifully here, must be some of the most scaldingly honest eulogies in the history of pop music, capturing as they do the many sides of Warhol, not all of them nice.”
